Many of the Founding Fathers were slave owners and some, such as Andrew Jackson, are directly responsible for the killing of tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands of the Native Americans during his presidency.

Since I was old enough to have a very basic understanding of our political process, I've kept hoping; from one election to the next, that we would have someone who truly works for the average American.

When Kennedy was elected, I thought we'd come close. When Carter was elected I knew we had come very close, but sadly, his own party worked overtime to thwart his presidency.

As sad and frustrating as it is, it just doesn't seem likely that the office will ever be filled with anyone but self-serving elitists.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13829283375082711360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257473.post-90998344828891071982016-12-22T12:50:31.300-08:002016-12-22T12:50:31.300-08:00This comment has been removed by the author.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13829283375082711360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257473.post-4680907214771742192016-12-22T09:57:33.508-08:002016-12-22T09:57:33.508-08:00Again, group think has proven to be a dangerous th...Again, group think has proven to be a dangerous thing.

Unfortunately, many States make it illegal for Electors to vote against the candidate their area voted for. On December 19th, a few Electors that tried to vote against Trump were replaced by the party, without any legal/court fight. Same with at least one that refused to vote for Clinton. If the public is against the Electoral College, they have made no effort to change it. This is the fifth time the the public vote did not match the Electoral College vote. This will happen more often as the presidency is won by minority vote as Bill Clinton did.
All you say in your bullet points about Trump are true, except Trump is not the biggest racist to ever be president and the founders you speak so well of started a slave nation. As devastating as his oratory was/is, his picks for his administration positions show us he is actually being more honest than most politicians. He is appointing exactly the type of people he said he would. So our nightmare becomes reality. Three million votes is a lot, but not enough to overcome the Electoral College. We have to face the fact that enough Americans agreed with Trump's demagoguery to make him president. I need no convincing about the danger of a Trump presidency. Those who do already spoke with their vote. It was a free and fair election by uninformed voters, or maybe they really believe Trump is what's need to change our corrupt government.

Depending on how Republicans stand on any Trump policy, the only way to stop him is in the courts and Democrats better be ready with their attorneys to play hardball.
Unfortunately one of our branches of government (Supreme Court) has become just another political arm of government.
I prefer a majority vote, but be prepared for the complaints that our future presidents will be decided by only 4 States, New York, Texas, California, and Florida. A complaint not without merit.
We need the law to stop Trump. Some of what he claims he wants to do is unconstitutional. If we expect the rule of law to help us stop Trump, then we must accept those rules of our law that put him in the Oval office. I for one never understood why there was no movement to repeal the Electoral College after the 2000 election. It's not easy, and I'm sure you are aware of what is needed to amend the Constitution.
I don't mean this as an insult, but you are one of the clearest voices I've read about the election. So why is it your good mind/voice wasn't around during the primaries, or the election? More voices like yours is exactly what we needed during all the debate.
Over the decades I put a lot of blame on the American people for our political messes. They voted for Nixon the second time, even though by then the White House had been connected to Watergate. They voted for Bush the second time, even though by then we knew about his lies.
Group think is dangerous and people are to easily swayed. We need more sales resistance when listening to the lies of those who seek political power. Knowing people can be so easily swayed, voices like yours were especially need this election. Dangerous, irresponsible free speech must be confronted by reasoned, civil speech. Part of the responsibility of free speech is to make clear the lies of demagogues. It's just that their marbles are their brains.

Yeah, I think you'll be in good company down there as long as they know how you feel. probably the safest thing to do would be to let everyone there know you're "defecting" because of the Trump presidency. People have a very strong proclivity to associate a nation's politics/politicians with the citizens.

Let's just hope the number of dissenting Electors grows to 37 (they are estimating it to be around 30 as of yesterday, up from six the day before. In one day they increased their estimated numbers from 6 to 30. They're either being far more optimistic than they should be, or they're actually making some pretty damned incredible progress.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13829283375082711360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257473.post-3467436991935984942016-12-15T08:53:19.731-08:002016-12-15T08:53:19.731-08:00I've tried, Magpie, to understand how all this...I've tried, Magpie, to understand how all this insanity began. I understand the dissatisfaction with the status quo, I understand the very well. I can even understand the extreme dislike in this country for Hillary Clinton, but it's all so utterly self destructive, it still escapes me.

For nine days, I've read, listened, watched, read listened and watched some more. I love and am probably somewhat obsessed about reading the news and can spend hours moving from one media outlet to another, from Al Jazeera, to ABC Australia, to one page papers of some little 200 person town, trying figure out what the hell happened.

Certainly, Electors for the GOP outnumber those in the DNC, but to have so many from the GOP vote for, what seems to me anyway, a madman.

And not just any run of the mill madman, one on the order of Adolph Hitler; a man who could be the impetus of WWIII and the destruction of the planet, either through war or abandoning decades of environmental corrective measures.

There was something off with this election and I can't put my finger on it. The Electoral beating Trump Handed Clinton doesn't line up with what I'm reading about Trumps first approval ratings.

A couple days ago, his ratings were dismal - net approval going into office at the lowest ever recorded - 48%, and that's up from a couple days ago.

That dismal approval rating doesn't align very well at all with the votes, so either I'm not seeing something or something's off somewhere along the process.

If there's a vote in the House, I'm absolutely certain there'll be some extreme violence across the nation, as skinheads, Klan members, neo-Natzis, and the run of the mill rednecks who have about 100 of the normal 100 billion cells in their brains.

I think we'll see shootings and property damage that'll make all others combined look like play-acting. But, as heartless as it sounds, that would still be much better than having trump destroy the planet.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13829283375082711360noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257473.post-87972474367661815042016-12-15T07:41:21.221-08:002016-12-15T07:41:21.221-08:00I second Magpie. My couple penny's worth.
All...I second Magpie. My couple penny's worth.

All that info and most all of it based on fact.

To trumpers facts are irrelevant. They are in lockstep with the party and if the electors did do the right thing the college was designed for by the Constitution they love soooo much they would literally go bat shit crazy as they say.

Scenarios laid out here are more likely than not as this orange bastard will never change from what he has been his whole life.

Obama could be the main player in this but as he eluded to before being elected in '08 the possibility of having some accountability for the treasonous Evil Bush Bastards nothing was done of course and he will stay out of this too, more than likely.

Some have said we are getting some of our own medicine because of what we have done similar and much more in so many other countries. I don't agree with that.

When important political leaders are informed of such transgressions concerning this election they took an oath to protect my country from enemies both foreign and domestic.

Goddammit they are supposed to do something but they wont and they are treasonous bastards just like the bushes.

The Left feigns surprise most of the time over the conduct of trumper and also how media reports on whatever. How damn stupid are you people??? Why would you expect anything other??

LTFO

I was going again anyway and am headed across the southern frontier border soon. I will be in a country where most despise this prick as much as I do.

One Flyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03772881642197609507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257473.post-29345229297651490212016-12-15T01:34:13.686-08:002016-12-15T01:34:13.686-08:00Epic post.

Global peace is a house of cards. Failure to manage a crisis on the world stage could have runaway consequences. Brinkmanship is not for the reckless. This personality-disordered, shallow egomaniac could literally get us all killed, burn down the institutions that have protected Americans for 200 hundred years and at minimum usher in a period of doubt, insecurity and retrograde development in the quality of life for millions within and without America. He is a disaster that walks and his supporters have set fire to their own beds in thinking he has an answer to their problems.Magpiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02423673258718941141noreply@blogger.com
