Inhumane Humanity

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed. --Herman Melville

The True Axis of Evil
No instance; no motivational factors are tenable in the willful mistreatment of other human beings. Fear can never be the determining force of our behavior; it simply cannot be.

If we succumb to such reactionary impulses, we’re turning the entire human race into nothing more than a despicable species; the lowest form of life on the planet.

Through such abhorrent barbarism, we’re fully approving congenerous behavior, by those we consider our enemies, to be exacted upon us and our own.

There simply are no perversions of law, or manipulation of language, as the Bush Administration so ardently sought, that constitutes righteous acceptance of torture, or indeterminate incarceration.

The legacy of the Bush Administration is now and will forever be seen as nothing more than a heinous blight on the history of humanity.

Though, they will likely never be prosecuted, they have so much for which to be proud!

We owe a huge debt of gratitude for the few in power who stood up to Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Yoo, and David Addington.

They are the voice of reason among despots.  History will be generous to them.

  1. "History will be generous to them."

That might be a stretch. For that to happen do we not have to become better first. Half or more think/will think they're traitors. In other country's it very well may be different.

    1. You're probably right. I've been conversing with some elsewhere who think John Kariakaou deserves what he did and more.

I've become quite mystified with people, Fly. The humane treatment of other beings, human or otherwise, regardless of right or left, liberal or conservative seems should be at the front of everyone's code of ethics.

And that doesn't even take into consideration the logic that every person of minimal intelligence should understand that if we torture, wrongfully imprison the innocent, murder, etc. we cannot expect anything more from anyone else, including extremists.

    2. I have to admit to not knowing much about this man but Democracy Now is one if not the only place where the whole truth has a chance to be learned. I went to see Amy Goodman awhile ago now.

Like you I very much wonder how/why people do and think the way they do. And I very much believe there has been a fundamental shift to the right basically accomplished by media and AM radio. 2016 we'll find out.

Dogs are on my mind these days for a number of reasons and people care more for their fucking dogs than they do their fellow human beings.

Again - hearing the words "I'm a human being" for the first few times being straight outta the cornfield in Ghana West Africa in '77 was the strangest damn thing to me it really was.

Now that is more important than ever after what has happened concerning Irak and the region since say '03.

We are all human beings and I cannot for a second even imagine hurting another for the purpose of torturing . We are terribly flawed and there are too many now out there like that to get us back to more civility.

It's just the way I see it and it sucks to have a negative message always concerning these things.

    3. I didn't know much about it all either, until I read "The Dark Side, by Jane Mayer. If you like to read, this is among the best I've encountered for scouring the truth out of darkness.

It's a big read, but you'll not put it down once you start and I promise, you'll walk away from it shaken to the core and happy you live where you now do.

Never in my wildest imagination could I have expected to witness the United States bend to such repulsive levels of inhumane behavior. The Bush Administration severely tarnished the nation's standing in the world; perhaps for ever - the world doesn't forget such despotism; I suppose for that, we can be somewhat vindicated, in that the legacies of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their lackeys John Yoo and John Addington will live in utter shame long after we and they are gone.

I'd be surprised if history treats Bush and his cronies well at all. The facts and numbers are inescapable. If not for his lies. torture, and killing of 100's of thousands of innocent people, certainly his ruin of our economy can't go unnoticed. But the false way text books rewrite history, I wouldn't bet on that either. At this point Bush is getting the negative reviews he deserves, who knows how a hundred years will change that.

    1. Indeed. With time, all things become more clear. I watched Democracy Now's interview with John Kariakou yesterday. It gives me a bit of hope that the criminals will be brought to justice, if not in court, at least in the court of public opinion and history.

Those who stood up to these cowards are real men; honest and ethical human beings who started the watershed of truth for the world to see.

Back in the day when I had a very popular blog, I was one of those who was called a traitor, attacked, and had my blog forced off the net. It's really no satisfaction to have been proven correct, we still had to live through this crap and it has hurt America. In my experience these kind of guys (Bush, Cheney, etc.) never get what they deserve, they just get away with it. I'm not optimistic that any Bush administration officials will ever be charged. I do see Americans now have the opinion that their acts were criminal. It was sad that one of the first directions Obama gave his AG was not to investigate Bush's administration wrongdoings.

    3. I agree. The tarnishing of America's standing will haunt us for years, possibly decades; in global trade and in any future military conflict we may find ourselves engaged in. Enemies have a very long memory and will be very opportunistic in exacting revenge. Especially now that much of this has become common knowledge.

The shortsighted Bush Administration didn't give that much thought, did they.
