Inhumane Humanity

Of all the preposterous assumptions of humanity over humanity, nothing exceeds most of the criticisms made on the habits of the poor by the well-housed, well-warmed, and well-fed. --Herman Melville

Senate blocks DADT

Beyond absurd folks, but don't ask about it and don't tell anyone.
gays-1209x-large
I watched the Senate hearing while questioning the top military personnel of the nation.  Everyone of the top brass will support the measure and stated so in the hearing (of course, what choice to they have if it becomes law).  Now our Senate is telling us that they know better than the people they’ve placed in position to run the military.

Is this a message that they don’t trust the very people they put in charge of our military?  Or is it a a decision made by a bunch of senile homophobes who haven’t a clue what’s going on around them in the world today?

Of course the bill is tied to another bill authorizing a massive pay raise for the young men and women we send to be shot at and to shoot others, a whopping 1.4 % increase.  This will certainly change the balance of wealth in our world.  It’s no wonder the puppet’s strings are being pulled to just say no.
The Senate should be embarrassed, ashamed and should tuck their tails between their legs and whimper like the cowards they are.  1.4% is the lowest pay raise now voted down by Congress since 1962.  1962 folks!  Interestingly enough, that’s the exact inflation rate in 1962, when Mr. McCain was in the military. Some other notes of interest:

The average cost of a new home was $12,500.00
The average annual income was $5,556.00
Average rent was $110.00 per month
Tuition at Harvard University was $1,520.00
A 4WD International Scout was $2,150.00
Eggs were $0.32 per dozen and gas was $0.28 per gallon.

“Sen. John McCain, the top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, has been blocking the repeal because of concerns about the impact on military readiness” USA Today

Senator McCain; do you realize that there are many gays serving proudly in our military TODAY?  Does this mean you feel that our military is not ready for the tasks handed them?  Or does it mean that you’re such a homophobe and bigot that you can’t see past your own issues to move into the 21st century?

OH!!  Here’s the reason: “One challenge is that 42 Republicans have signed a letter saying they will not vote on legislation until work is done on tax cuts.” USA Today

Two Republicans in particular, Scott Brown of Massachusetts and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, had earlier said they were committed to DADT repeal. But both ended up voting against it, claiming they wanted to see the tax-cut bill resolved firstCitizen Cohn, The New Republic

It seems our very own Senate is going to hold the entire country hostage, including the youth of our nation, our heroic soldiers dying every damned day so they can plant their sorry asses in their easy chairs at night, gloating of their own importance and complaining that people such as Julian Assange can freely write about our corrupt and evil government’s activities and they’re going to hold us hostage like the terrorists they seek to destroy until they get their taxes for the wealthy.

And to think of what we have to look forward to in 2011!

  1. I don't know why we even have a democratic party representing us in the Senate. They are worthless mf'ers. I'm so pissed at everything my democrats and my president are doing today, I'm afraid we have no representation, our party has cowered to the thugs, it all makes me so ill...DADT, tax code fairness, START treaty, Dream act, unemployment, etc, etc. The thugs act like they own the country and the left has no say whatsoever. I'm so angry tonight Bob...

  2. I don't blame you Sue.

It's infuriating. I’m Independent, but like you, Dems or Repubs, our government owes us the responsibility of upholding the Constitution of the United States. It's the law! Yet most of them don't act as if they've ever learned a damned thing about it.

Our entire government has turned to the wealthy elite for direction and we all know what that means: Early European Caste System is returning (or maybe it never left us).

  3. I'm stunned by this as well as blocking giving aid to 911 workers. I don't know what the Republicans hope to gain from this kind of "screw the people" attitude. I'd also like to know what is really behind that letter and behind once decent Republicans who are now marching in lock step behind McCain, McConnell, etc. It just doesn't add up.

  4. Leslie - I'm no longer stunned by anything the feds do, I'm to the point of furious. They do what they, when they want and how they want, piss on the people's wishes. They censor free speech, they rob the poor and turn them out on the streets, they take money away from pensions and turn it over to the banks (the elite) and say "what the hell, you're gonna die anyway, for we're gonna make it impossible to get health care.

I'm personally tired of living in a third-rate democracy (oh wait, it's not even that, it's 18th rate), I think I'll move up 17 notches and move to Sweden.

I'll just be careful not to have sex with women while they're sleeping :-)

  5. Wait till January.
We will hear about how we now have to PAY for the "Obama" tax cuts.
That's right. They will now be referred to as the Obama tax cuts.
The first chance they get they will go after Soc. Sec.

Social programs, cut, cut, cut, public education cut, cut, Medi care medi caid, cut. food for the needy, cut.
    You name it.

Come April they will vote on the debt ceiling.
Talk about hostage taking. More cuts.
States will start declaring bankruptcy. More cuts, and the Feds will dictate Austerity to individual states.
This will be the death of ALL UNIONS.
This tax debate has very far reaching consequences.
TAO has a good post up with an article by James K Galbraith.

Dems and progressives can no longer sit idly by and allow this president, and the critters to not answer to the people.
